The Original Glampers: RV Travelers

If you aren’t up for a rugged adventure but still love the great outdoors, you may have found a new calling: Glamping!

While many people are catching onto this trend of spending a luxurious vacation or trip in the heart of nature, RV-ers know that they are the originators of this popular way to brave the wild in style. As the original glampers, RV travellers have some perfect options at their disposal when it comes to making a trip as comfortable as possible, with all the bells, whistles, and creature comforts of home. Let’s break down the elements that make up a perfect glamping trip in your RV:

Dining al Fresco

With access to a kitchenette and electric items like a pressure cooker, crockpot, or toaster oven, you can prepare almost anything. But all you really need is a cozy space to relax and a portable BBQ to build your own private outdoor dining space. Set down a couple of big blankets (or if you have the extra space, why not pack a rug?), a table with chairs or lounge chairs, add in a citronella candle, some pillows, and you’ll have a perfect space to relax and go barefoot for the evening.

You could really add some flair to your campsite by stringing up lights against an extra tent pole or post to create a cozy light source for your meal under the stars. Utilize the BBQ flavor in your meat or veggies and you’ll feel like you’ve had a gourmet meal. The best part is, you can leave a lot of things set up from the evening and enjoy it the next day for breakfast as well.

Natural Wake-Up Calls

One of the perks of spending your time on the road is the ability and desire to wake up with the sun. No matter how you set up camp, you’ll receive the most warm and inviting wake-up call you’ve ever gotten on vacation - without any loud or obnoxious alarms or telephone calls. The sunrise tends to quickly warm up the inside of your RV or tent and helps you to rise with a gentle awakening, usually ahead of the normal schedule. If you make it to bed a bit early, you might be able to see the sunrise as well.

One way to make your mornings even more luxurious is to set up your percolator or coffee maker the night before, and enjoy an easy pour over or fresh brew first thing in the AM. If you had already enjoyed an evening dining experience al fresco, you’ve got the perfect spot to enjoy your coffee in the sunshine.

Pick up a pair of moccasins or cozy slippers with a rubber bottom to feel at ease waking up in nature and be able to go for a walk outdoors as you get your day started.

Customized Entertaining Space

RVs make it easy for travellers to customize their space and create the stay they want for their vacation or time on the road. Because you have additional storage space in an RV, you could pack things to enjoy on your glamping stay like your favorite bocce ball set or kites, that you otherwise wouldn’t pack for a backpacking trip.

If you have a large umbrella or canopy to attach to your RV,  build yourself a comfortable hang-out spot at your campsite. Set up the reclining chairs next to your cooler, and you can invite your neighbors to join! You can even pick up some of the solar garden light stakes for an easy way to light a path.

If you’re staying for awhile, you might want to mix it up with a movie night under the moon. You could use a sheet for your projector, but if you have plenty of room in your RV, you can buy portable screens for projectors that aren’t too large for smaller spaces.

Spa Settings

Just because you are on the road, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a luxurious vacation that feels like a serene spa. One of the easiest way to make the inside of your RV feel fresh and smell spa-like is with humidifier/diffusers. Small enough to be very portable, diffusers can even be found in mini sizes - all you need is water and a few drops of your favorite essential oils to turn your space into a moisture-rich, relaxing atmosphere.

While you’re spending time near a firepit in the evenings or enjoying your dinner outdoors, make sure to keep some musical entertainment on hand. Don’t forget to pack up your favorite guitar, mandolin, or fiddle to share with your fellow campers around one of the firepits for a social event in the evenings.

There are so many ways to turn your RV trip into the ultimate glamping vacation, but all it really takes are a few creature comforts to make all the difference. If you don’t have an RV, you can still pack up any of the above items in your car to build the ultimate glamping setup. It can be much easier than you think to customize your space and make it feel like home.
